Magical Minds, a production by A Truefitt Collective, is more than just a dance performance. It’s a transformative full-day experience that combines creativity, mindfulness, and emotional well-being for school children. After the performance, children take part in a Dance Mindfulness workshop, where they explore the emotions presented in the show through movement. Choreographed and directed by Kasia, the founder of A Truefitt Collective, this unique project has reached countless young audiences, helping them understand and express their emotions, while aiming to make live performance accessible to all.
The Vision: Bringing Dance and Well-being to Schools
Kasia’s vision for Magical Minds began with a clear mission: to make inspiring, creative opportunities available to every child. "Many of the children we work with have never been to a theatre or seen a live performance," Kasia explained. By bringing the show directly into schools, A Truefitt Collective ensures that all children, regardless of background, can experience the magic of dance.
But Magical Minds is about more than just entertainment. Kasia emphasised the importance of blending choreography with mindfulness to help children better understand their emotions. "We wanted to combine dance with Dancing Mindfulness to help children articulate how they feel and use movement to support their mental health," she shared.

Challenges and Adaptations: Creating for Young Audiences
Touring the show for over six years, Kasia and her team have embraced the opportunity to adapt Magical Minds for a wide range of age groups. "Working with children aged 4 to 11 meant we got creative with the choreography, language, and themes to make sure it was engaging and appropriate for everyone," Kasia explained. Inclusivity has been a key focus, with special attention given to children who may be sensitive to loud sounds or overstimulation. To create a magical yet comfortable experience for all, the team introduced clear pre-show introductions and preparations, ensuring every child feels at ease.
Bringing Dance and Mindfulness Together For a Purpose
For the dance artists, Magical Minds is about more than just performing—it’s about making a lasting impact on the children. Natalie, one of the dance artists, sees the production as a way to empower children, "dance should be accessible to everyone, especially to support children's mental health." Performing for young audiences, she finds joy in their curiosity and enthusiasm, "the energy in the room is always incredible—children light up, ask questions, and connect with the characters."
Kitty, another dance artist, shared how Magical Minds allowed her to combine her passion for both dance and teaching. "Children react with such honesty and excitement," she said. "It’s great to see them move freely and express themselves," she added. These workshops also reinforce mindfulness techniques, teaching children practical tools to manage their emotions.
Florencia, who performs in the production, emphasised how the children's immediate reactions make each performance unique, "they give you feedback right away—they love exaggerated expressions, and it makes the whole experience fun and dynamic," she shared. Florencia hopes the show teaches children that it’s okay to experience a range of emotions, from joy to sadness, and that movement can help them navigate those feelings.
Inspiring Creativity and Confidence
Kasia’s goal for Magical Minds is to inspire creativity and confidence in children. "After the show, we often see children buzzing with excitement," she said. Many express interest in performing themselves. Through both the performance and the Dancing Mindfulness workshops, Kasia and her team aim to foster creativity while teaching children how to care for their mental health.
The performance itself is set inside the brain, following one character on a journey through different emotions, from anger to joy, "the message is that it’s important to feel both positive and negative emotions, as they help us navigate life’s journey," Kasia explained. The workshops further explore these emotions, helping children to understand and express their feelings through movement.
Behind the Scenes: A Team Effort
Behind the scenes, the production is a well-coordinated effort, as Janaya, an intern with A Truefitt Collective, experienced firsthand. Her role involved managing schedules, ensuring everything was set up for each performance, and capturing key moments from the shows. "It was amazing to see the dancers in action and to be part of the process that made it all happen," Janaya shared.
A memorable moment for Janaya came when the team unexpectedly needed an extra dancer, and she had to step in. "It taught me how quickly you need to think on your feet and stay calm under pressure," she reflected. Her time with the team gave her a deeper understanding of the hard work and dedication required to bring the production to life.

The Lasting Impact of Magical Minds
At its core, Magical Minds is about helping children understand their emotions, boosting their confidence, and inspiring creativity through dance. Every performance and workshop creates a space where children can explore their emotions and learn how to express themselves, both on and off the stage.
For Kasia and her team, the magic of Magical Minds lies in its ability to leave a lasting impact. "We want children to feel empowered—not just to dance, but to express themselves and understand that all emotions are valid," Kasia said. Through every performance, interaction, and workshop, the team is helping children navigate the highs and lows of life with confidence, creativity, and compassion—one dance step at a time.
