TEACHER IN RESIDENCY

WHAT IS TEACHER IN RESIDENCY?

Teacher in Residency is an early intervention project for Primary Schools using movement and mindfulness to support wellbeing. Our aim is to support and nurture all children aged 5-11 years old who are at risk of poor mental health, to help them recognise and understand their emotions and prevent them from reaching points of crisis.

What do Primary Schools say about this project?

"With 314 pupils on roll, we have a high proportion of pupils that fall into the SEN Category at 28%.

35 % of these are categorized as being from disadvantaged backgrounds and 26% are pupil premium. The pupils chosen for the project were/are displaying many emotional needs with many struggling with anxiety, SEN needs and attending school regularly. We have really enjoyed being part of the project and would like to thank Truefitt Collective for the impact they have made on the pupils in the short time you were with them” –

(Bedwell Primary School).

How does the project work?

Teacher in Residency is an early intervention project for children aged 5-11 years old. We work collaboratively with each primary school to understand the needs of their students and develop a suitable timetable for the residency to take place.

The project provides each school with one Dancing Mindfulness artist for one school day per week for a minimum of 4 weeks, to a maximum of 12 weeks. The project involves up to 5 workshops per day with a maximum of 10 children per workshop. â€‹

Referral Process and Impact Reports:

We have developed a monitoring process in collaboration with Shona Leahy, Registered Dance Movement Psychotherapist to monitor the emotional wellbeing of children throughout their residencies

Schools are required to complete a referral form for each child and an evaluation form. Artists complete weekly monitoring forms throughout the sessions whereby we can provide schools with an impact report at the end of the project.
